| If
Montreux is the grand daddy of European Jazz festivals, then Monterey
must be the godfather of the worldwide scene.
Founded
way, way back in 1958 with the intention of providing full on
entertainment whilst educating people, preserving the artform,
and encouraging the development of all things Jazz.
To
this day the organisation pass on their profits to help ensure
these aims are met.
The
festival is held within the twenty acre forest park of Monterey
Fairgrounds. You get a promise of three nights of continuous live
entertainment featuring over 500 musicians, from high school bands
to the very best international acts.
All
these factors, plus plenty of workshop, exhibition, eating, drinking,
and shopping opportunities, make a very persuasive case for mapping
this one out.
